Winston Churchill said “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all
of the others.” Certainly democracy has its problems, but let’s look at some of the benefits of a
democratic form of government.
- Freedom of Expression. In a democracy people have the right to express their opinions,
challenge authority, and engage in public debate. - Protection of Rights. Democracies have constitutions that guarantee fundamental rights, such
as freedom of religion and the right to bear arms. - Regular Elections. Citizens can choose their leaders and hold them accountable.

- Economic Freedom. Democracies allows its citizens to own property, start a business, and
engage in commerce. - Social welfare. Democracies tend to be more responsive to social issues and to reduce
inequality.
